Before You Buy: Wi-Fi 7 Routers and Mesh Systems

Two Wi-Fi 7 options: a single Xiaomi router and an eero mesh three-pack sold in the US. Check how many of your devices support Wi-Fi 7 and which country the network will run in.

Start with what you actually need

  • Single router: The Xiaomi Router BE6500 Pro is for homes upgrading to Wi-Fi 7 and for anyone who needs 2.5G ports for a NAS or faster-than-gigabit broadband. If every device in the house is Wi-Fi 6 or older, you will not see its top speeds.
  • Mesh system: The eero Pro 7 (3-pack) is for US homes with large floor plans and many devices. It is a poor fit for small homes that one router covers, and for anyone in China who needs local network and service support.

China and US versions: what actually differs

  • The eero Pro 7 is sold on the US store with no official China sale, so no China warranty applies. The US page lists a 3-year warranty. Anyone planning to use it in China should first confirm band support, certification and network compatibility on their own.
  • Each eero unit ships with a 27W USB-C power adapter rated for 100-240V AC, 50/60 Hz.
  • The Xiaomi card lists no China and US version differences. Its power adapter is rated 12V / 2A.

Common pitfalls

  • The BE6500 Pro's combined figure of up to 6453Mbps is theoretical. Real speeds depend on your devices and your broadband, and the top end needs Wi-Fi 7 clients.
  • The BE6500 Pro must be bound with the Mi Home app, version 8.9 or later.
  • Packaging for the BE6500 Pro varies slightly between batches. Xiaomi says all of them are genuine, so go by the unit you receive.
  • The eero Pro 7 is for indoor use only.

How our cards read

Both cards rate the price as roughly even between China and the US. Prices move daily, so check each card page for today's numbers.

  • Xiaomi Router BE6500 Pro: Wi-Fi 7 with MLO, four auto-sensing 2.5G ports, and Xiaomi Mesh for up to 10 routers, plus a built-in Bluetooth Mesh gateway. Buy; our card's call is roughly even.
  • eero Pro 7 (3-pack): tri-band Wi-Fi 7 with about 2,000 sq ft of coverage per unit, support for 200-plus devices, two 5GbE ports per unit with wired backhaul, and a built-in smart home hub with Thread, Zigbee and Matter controller support. Wait; roughly even.

Before you buy

  • Count how many of your devices support Wi-Fi 7.
  • If one router covers your home, a three-unit mesh kit is more than you need.
  • If you have a NAS or faster-than-gigabit service, look at the 2.5G or 5GbE ports.
  • For use in China, keep in mind the eero has no official China sale or China warranty.
  • Update Mi Home to version 8.9 or later before setting up the Xiaomi router.
  • Check the card page for the current price.
